The seated calf raise is a machine exercise where you raise your heels with weight on your bent knees. The bent knee puts more emphasis on the soleus, the deeper calf muscle, making it a good complement to standing raises.
With knees bent around 90 degrees, the gastrocnemius is slackened, so the soleus does more of the work. Both muscles still help plantar flex the ankle.

Lower fully and rise fully, using less load if needed.
Push evenly through the big toe and the ball of the foot.
Surpass starts the seated calf raise at 10–20 reps with about 1 reps in reserve. As an isolation exercise it fits well after your main compound lifts.
Work in 10-20 reps and add load once you hit the top of the range with full pauses. Pair with standing raises across the week for complete calf work.
Surpass shows what you lifted last time beside a target for this set, and adjusts it from your reps and RIR. Free on iPhone, no account needed.
These train the same main muscles. Swap when the equipment is busy, something hurts, or progress has stalled for several weeks.
It mainly targets the soleus, the deep calf muscle under the gastrocnemius. The soleus contributes significantly to calf size and ankle endurance.
